AFERsmart PLUS™

AFERsmart PLUS™ can be used in both outpatient and hospital settings (depending on the apheresis procedure) and can perform five types of therapeutic apheresis:

1. Double Filtration Plasmapheresis (DFPP, Double Filtration Apheresis, cascade apheresis): separates blood into plasma and red blood cells; selectively removes toxins, autoantibodies, heavy metals and other harmful substances from the plasma.
   
2. Hemoperfusion: selectively removes toxins, autoantibodies, heavy metals and other harmful substances, uses patient's whole plasma (without separation into plasma).
   
3. Traditional plasma exchange (therapeutic plasmapheresis, TPE, PLEX): part of patient's plasma is discarded and replated with donor plasma/albumin
   
4. Selective apheresis - used for example in organ transplant rejection
   
5. Double Filtration Adsorption - used for patients with septic shock.

AFERsmart Plus™ can be used with either heparin and citrate. 

AFERsmart Plus™ has advanced safety sensors detecting, among others: blood leakage, air in the filtration system, and hemoglobin pathologies, further reducing the risk of potential complications.

AFERsmart Plus™ is integrated with an external plasma heater (Kalos).

The manufacturer Medica S.p.a. holds ISO:2015, ISO 13485:2021 quality certificates and the European Union EC MDR 00048-A certificate. 

AFERsmart Plus™ has no contact with the patients' blood: all blood and plasma go through sterile disposable sets of filters, lines and bags.
